2025-4-18
Singapore¡äs first green methanol bunkering vessel, the Golden Antares, will be delivered by the end of April. The vessel is owned by Golden Island, a Singaporean marine fuel supplier.
The Golden Antares is a newly built 7,999 deadweight tonne IMO Type 2 bunkering vessel registered in Singapore and capable of carrying 6,500 tonnes of methanol. According to market sources, the vessel will depart from a shipyard in Zhejiang, China, and load green methanol cargo at Tianjin Port. The greenhouse gas emissions reduction throughout the entire life cycle of the loaded green methanol reaches 75%. It is supplied by the Chinese company The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas), but the quantity is unknown. The Golden Antares will transport the cargo to the port of Singapore for a bunkering trial scheduled for July.
Before the start of the bunkering trial, the cargo will be stored at Stolthaven Singapore, a highly automated terminal located in Tembusu, Jurong Island, Singapore. Mark Lim, the Asian Business Development Manager of Stolthaven Singapore, said, "We have sufficient capacity to meet Singapore¡äs demand."
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is actively promoting the methanol bunkering business in Singapore. The authority issued a notice on March 26 calling for applications for methanol fuel bunkering licenses. The MPA also announced a new methanol bunkering standard in early March.
Towngas is the first Chinese enterprise to obtain ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS certifications for bio-methanol, and it has received these certifications for the third consecutive year since 2022. Its bio-methanol production plant is located in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia.
