Wanhua Chemical and Geely Auto Jointly Achieve Breakthrough in Localization of Automotive-Grade Light Guide PC Materials

On August 27th, Wanhua Chemical and Geely Auto jointly released the cooperation achievement of automotive-grade light guide polycarbonate (PC) materials at Wanhua Chemical Ningbo Research Institute, with senior executives from both sides attending the ceremony. This cooperation marks that Wanhua Chemical has become the first Chinese enterprise to enter the core supply chain of Geely Auto¡äs automotive lamp light guide grade materials.
As the optical material for the core component of automotive lamps, its performance directly determines the safety and reliability of the automotive intelligent lighting system. It not only needs to meet the optical "hard indicators" of ultra-high light transmittance, low haze, low birefringence, and resistance to yellowing, but also satisfy the physical "hard requirements" of high fluidity, high impact resistance, and high temperature resistance. Through the independently developed interfacial polycondensation phosgene process, Wanhua Chemical has made breakthroughs in raw material ratio, additive optimization, production process and other links, and launched the automotive-grade light guide PC material Clarnate® LED1355. Addressing the common issue of PC materials being prone to yellowing, this material optimizes the polymerization process, significantly improving product purity and anti-aging performance. It has reached an industry-leading level in terms of optical properties, processing stability, and long-term weather resistance.
Geely Auto¡äs technical team has simultaneously overcome the challenges in material molding processes. By leveraging precision injection molding and optical calibration technologies, they have successfully applied this material to the lamp unit design of multiple vehicle models under brands such as Zeekr and Geely, creating a unique visual effect that integrates a sense of technology with oriental aesthetics.
This cooperation is not only a breakthrough in the industrialization of Wanhua Chemical¡äs independently developed materials, but also a key breakthrough in Geely Auto¡äs localized automotive lamp light guide technology.
