The 1.2 Million Ton Ethylene Plant of Jilin Petrochemical Successfully Started in One Operation

At 13:00 on August 28, 2025 the core unit of Jilin Petrochemical¡äs refining and chemical transformation and upgrading project - the newly built 1.2 million tons/year ethylene cracking furnace - was put into operation. At 10:30 on August 30th, the carbon dioxide hydrogenation reaction system was adjusted and qualified. At 19:00 on August 31st, the production of qualified ethylene products achieved a successful start-up.

At this point, Jilin Petrochemical¡äs total ethylene production capacity has jumped to 1.9 million tons per year, ranking among the top in the country.

As the leader of Jilin Petrochemical Company¡äs chemical industry chain, the newly built 1.2 million tons/year ethylene plant is contracted by Sinopec Engineering Construction Co., Ltd. (SEI) and constructed by Sinopec Tenth Construction Co., Ltd. The project is totally invested at 4.177 billion yuan (including tax), covering an area of 119,000 square meters. As the project adopts domestically produced CBL cracking technology and LECT separation technology, the localization rate of the equipment is as high as 96%, and the key core equipment achieves 100% independent controllability. The comprehensive energy consumption and other technical indicators have reached the advanced level in China, providing a "replicable and promotable" practical model for the localization of large-scale ethylene technology. At the same time, the environmental design indicators of the unit are comprehensively higher than the national standards, which not only improves economic benefits but also takes into account ecological environment protection, achieving a win-win situation between economic and social benefits.

After the unit is put into operation, it can produce 1.2 million tons of polymer grade ethylene and 587,000 tons of polymer grade propylene annually. At the same time, more than 20 types of chemical raw materials, products, and semi-finished products such as cracked C4, hydrogenated gasoline, acetylene, and hydrogen are produced as by-products, ensuring the production of downstream polyethylene, acrylonitrile, ABS and other devices of the company. The significant achievements of "reducing oil and increasing chemical production" and "reducing oil and increasing specialty" will effectively drive the upgrading of downstream high-end materials, organic chemicals and other industrial chains, laying the foundation for cultivating new driving forces for regional transformation and development, and seizing new tracks in the petrochemical industry.

The unit started pile foundation construction on November 12, 2022, civil engineering construction on April 1, 2023, mechanical completion on November 30, 2024, intermediate handover on April 30, 2025, and successful start-up on August 31, 2025, demonstrating the "speed of Jilin Petrochemical " throughout the process.

The transformation and upgrading project of Jilin Petrochemical¡äs refining and chemical industry, with the construction of a new 1.2 million tons/year ethylene plant as the core, has successfully practiced the transformation model of traditional refining and chemical producerss, including "reducing oil and increasing chemical production", "reducing oil and increasing specialty production", and "using new to lead the old". It shapes a product structure with corporate characteristics and obvious market competitive advantages, which is an important milestone for Jilin Petrochemical to promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries. It will lay a solid foundation for the layout of the entire industry chain of "refining and refined materials", significantly enhance the core competitiveness of the company, provide solid industrial support for promoting the comprehensive revitalization of Northeast China and Jilin in the new era, and inject new impetus into the high-quality development of China¡äs petroleum refining and chemical business.
