Vinyl Institute Statement on 1,2-Dichloroethane Draft Risk Evaluation

2025-12-9

The Vinyl Institute (VI), a U.S. trade association representing the leading manufacturers of vinyl, released the following statement to be attributed to Ned Monroe, president and CEO of the Vinyl Institute:

ˇ°Yesterday, the Federal Register posted the draft risk evaluation for 1,2-Dichloroethane under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), opening a 60-day period for comments to EPA due on January 20, 2026. The vinyl industry is strongly committed to the safety of our workers and the communities where we operate. We have already worked cooperatively with the EPA for several years on this TSCA required review, and will continue working hard to ensure that this risk evaluation is conducted in a thorough manner using the best available science. VI and our members are currently preparing comments to this draft, in order to ensure that all current and pertinent data is available for EPA to use in its risk evaluation. Safely managed in the United States for decades, 1,2-Dichloroethane is an important building block for an industry that supports over 350,000 U.S. jobs and safely goes into a wide variety of essential products.ˇ±
