Bohai Petrochemical¡äs Safe Organic Liquid Hydrogen Storage and Release Project Goes Operational

On December 26, 2025, Tianjin Bohai Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Bohai Petrochemical"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tianjin Bohai Chemical Co., Ltd., officially launched its safety demonstration project for organic liquid hydrogen storage and release. The implementation of this project marks a pivotal step in Bohai Petrochemical¡äs deep alignment with the company¡äs "15th Five-Year Plan" strategic deployment, promoting high-quality and efficient utilization of hydrogen resources while driving the company¡äs transformation toward green, low-carbon, new materials, and renewable energy sectors.

The project was jointly developed and implemented by Bohai Petrochemical and China Hydrogen Source Security (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd., with a focus on the core technologies of safe organic liquid hydrogen storage and release. It involved the research and development of key technologies for green and safe hydrogen storage and transportation, successfully overcoming a series of technical challenges such as hydrogen storage and release catalysts, process optimization, and system integration, achieving the industrialization of hydrogen-based energy storage and release equipment.

As a significant breakthrough in the hydrogen energy industry, the successful commissioning of this project holds multiple industry values. First, it effectively breaks through foreign technological blockades in safe organic liquid hydrogen storage and release, achieving independent control over core technologies. Second, it overcomes the high-risk barriers of hydrogen as a hazardous chemical in storage, transportation, and application, breaking industry development constraints and significantly reducing end-user hydrogen costs. Third, it promotes the utilization and large-scale adoption of industrial byproduct hydrogen and renewable energy-derived hydrogen, providing practical support for the high-quality development of the hydrogen energy industry, with major practical value and industry-leading significance.

Subsequently, the project will focus on independently developed safe hydrogen-based energy storage and hydrogen release equipment, relying on industrial by-product hydrogen resources as the hydrogen supply source, to establish China¡äs first safe organic liquid hydrogen storage and utilization demonstration closed-loop system. Through demonstration applications, the project will further explore application scenarios and commercial operation models tailored to domestic industrial needs, laying a solid foundation and providing practical samples for the large-scale commercial promotion of safe organic liquid hydrogen storage and release technology.
